How to use this calculator
Have a pace in mind? Enter it to see what it means over different distances. Or start with a run you’ve already done: enter your time and distance to find your average pace. You can switch between miles and kilometers at any point.
Thinking about a 50-minute 10K? That’s 5:00 per kilometer, or about 8:03 per mile. Try that pace in the 10K chart to see your checkpoints along the way.
Give your pace some context
The same pace can feel very different on a cool, flat route and a warm, hilly one. Use the numbers to plan your run, then let your breathing and effort help you adjust once you’re out there.
Questions runners ask.
How do I choose a realistic race pace?
Start with a recent race or workouts you’ve handled well. Try a finish time here, then ask whether the pace fits your training and the distance you’re racing. Compare a few nearby goals so you have room to adjust on the day.
Should I aim for this pace on every run?
Your target race pace isn’t your everyday pace. Easy runs should leave you able to chat comfortably. Keep those runs easy, and use faster targets for the workouts they’re meant for.
Does this tell me how fast I can race?
It shows how long each distance takes at the pace you enter. Holding that pace for a 5K is a different challenge from holding it for a marathon. Use your training and recent races to decide which finish times are realistic for you.
